Katima Mulilo has made significant strides in infrastructure and community development throughout 2024, marking a year of progress and laying the groundwork for future projects.

The town's mayor John Ntemwa said this in his address during the New Year's Eve countdown.

One of the notable achievements is the completion of the Lifasi Road upgrade, enhancing connectivity for residents and businesses. 

Mayor Ntemwa noted that Road infrastructure in the town is set for further improvements.

"Through collaboration with the Road Fund Administration and the Roads Authority, ten roads have been earmarked for upgrades, with work on Soweto, Hage Geingob, Richard Muhinda, and Pick n Pay-Ngweze Mall Street roads scheduled to commence in January 2025."

The town council announced the installation of surveillance cameras across the town, which he described as a pivotal move toward bolstering community security, as well as the construction of over 500 houses by the national housing enterprise, a project that commenced in December.

He also added that much more is set to be done.

"Looking ahead, the town plans to focus on delivering infrastructure projects, improving service delivery, driving economic growth, fostering sustainability, and empowering youth in 2025."

This, he said, includes the groundbreaking of land for the construction of an international standard football stadium in March of next year by the Ministry of Sports through an agreement with the local authority, which he said forms part of the council's vision of empowering youth.

Ntemwa noted that despite the improvements, the council has faced challenges in areas of service delivery, resource limitation and governance and vowed to improve for the better.

Moving into 2025, the council has committed to focusing delivery on infrastructure projects in a timely fashion, partnering with businesses and stakeholders for job creation and investments while stimulating local entrepreneurship and the economy.
