The festive season mood of sharing and caring is still being felt in some parts of the country.

At Rundu, the Catholic Men's Association of Namibia at St. Peter held a lunch party for senior citizens, during which the children and grandchildren around the town surprised their parents with gifts as a token of appreciation.

The association came up with the senior citizen party to see to it that the elderly are not neglected during the festive season.

According to Micheal Linyando, Chairperson of the St. Peter Catholic Men Association of Namibia, the idea is to encourage the youth to show love to their parents and not only see their value when they need a helping hand.

This year only 16 elderly benefitted from the programme.

He says during the festive season, most parents are required to look after their grandchildren while the youth go out and celebrate with their friends on Christmas Day or New Year's Eve.

Linyando says the programme is not limited to the Roman Catholic members only but to everyone around the country.

Since it is a yearly programme, Linyando is hoping for an improved number of participants at the following party by the end of 2025.
