The Landless People's Movement's (LPM) Fransiscus Khumub and his older brother, the Swapo Party's Moses Khumub, are the only two candidates to contest the Oshikoto Region's Guinas constituency by-election set for the 17th of January.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia's (ECN) returning officer for the Guinas constituency, Sion Shikufinde, informed NAMPA that they are well prepared.

Guinas is a small constituency, with 4,337 eligible registered voters.

He said there are five fixed polling stations at Oshivelo police station, Tsintsabis Primary School, Namutoni Gate, Farm Oshivelo, and Ondera Resettlement Farm.

The training of polling officials will take place in Tsumeb starting next Saturday, while that of political or election agents and police officers will take place on Thursday.

Shikufinde highlighted that the printing of ballot papers will take place on Thursday in Windhoek and will be delivered on Friday in Tsumeb.

He urged the Guinas community to go out and vote for their representative leader.

The Guinas constituency by-election is necessitated by the death of former Guinas constituency councillor Elias Barney Martinus, who died last October.
