The chairperson of the Omusati Regional Council Management Committee, Andreas Shintama, has called on staff members to redouble their efforts towards service delivery.
Shintana made the call during this year's official council opening session.
The opening session was attended by Governor Erginus Endjala, Chief Regional Officer Gervasius Kashindi, mayors, chief executive officers of local authorities, regional council directorate heads, and constituency councillors from all the region's constituencies.
"The mandate of the current Regional and Local Authorities that started in 2020 will come to an end in November 2025. Although we experienced a lot of impending challenges, such as persistent drought, COVID-19, and low economic growth, during our term, a lot of achievements were accomplished. Water, roads, and electricity infrastructure were constructed. Sanitation in the region also has received our attention. For the remaining months of our term, I urge you, the honourable members, to roll up your sleeves and push harder than ever to ensure that all the projects that were targeted for implementation are done," said Shintama.
Shintama further called on all committee members to improve the socio-economic status of the region and urged them to work together to achieve the set objectives, especially as the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024/2025 comes to an end.
"The month of January marks the beginning of the fourth quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year; hence, I would like to call upon all team members to do their part. It is of paramount importance that all resources at our disposal are utilised to accomplish all our planned activities."
He also cautioned that the recent cyberattack on Telecom Namibia IT should not be taken lightly, as it highlights what is at stake in the digital space and therefore urged stakeholders to be proactive in guarding against all possible cybersecurity threats.
