A disturbing incident of grave violation has left the community of Bito village in the Zambezi Region in shock and disbelief.

The incident, which occurred on January 6, is being investigated by the police. 

Authorities have confirmed that the grave in question belongs to a deceased person, who was buried in April 2024. 

According to reports, an unknown suspect or suspects unlawfully exhumed the grave and destroyed its original form without any legal authorisation.

The case has been registered with the Katima Mulilo police station, and law enforcement officers say they are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness. Investigations are ongoing as they work to identify and apprehend those responsible for this disturbing act.

Family members of the deceased, including residents of Bito village, have expressed outrage and sadness over the incident, calling for swift police action.

They further said that they were informed by police that a court order needs to be granted by the justice department to exhume the casket for further investigations.

Police confirmed that they are still waiting for a response from the magistrate's office regarding authorisation through a court order.
