The recent attacks on elderly residents in the coastal towns of Henties Bay and Swakopmund have raised significant concerns about the safety of senior citizens in the Erongo Region.
The victims, assaulted in their own homes by unknown suspects, have become targets in what appears to be a growing trend of violence against older individuals.
In one of the brutal incidents, an elderly couple in Henties Bay was attacked earlier this week by three known suspects wielding panga, resulting in serious injuries that have left them hospitalised.
Another attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday in Swakopmund’s Kramersdorf suburb, where two men broke into the home of an elderly couple, robbing them under aggravated circumstances.
Nampol spokesperson for the Erongo Region, Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the attacks and assured the public that local police are actively investigating the cases.
Chief Inspector Shapumba emphasised that protecting senior citizens is a top priority. Increased patrols, focused investigations, and community outreach programmes will be implemented to combat the growing threat.
Authorities are calling on residents to stay alert, report suspicious activities, and work together to address the rising trend of violence.
