The African World Heritage Fund (AWHF), a UNESCO organisation, held its 2024 board meeting in December to outline its plans for 2025. The AWHF supports African countries in implementing the World Heritage Convention.
In the past year, the AWHF's efforts helped 11 African sites gain World Heritage status and supported Uganda and Senegal in removing two sites from the List of World Heritage in Danger.
For 2025, the AWHF will focus on increasing investment in African heritage, building local expertise, and training heritage professionals.
Namibia’s Ambassador to France and UNESCO, Albertus !Aochamub, praised the Fund’s work. “The AWHF plays a vital role in preserving Africa’s heritage and showcasing it globally. Increasing support and building skills will ensure these achievements continue,” he said.
