The Okandjoze Chiefs Assembly regards the joint declaration between Namibia and Germany, which was approved by Cabinet late last year, as a bilateral agreement between the two countries that does not address the issues of genocide.
Therefore, the chiefs' assembly condemns the approval of the joint declaration, terming it as "a total disrespect to affected communities of and descendants of genocide."
They are calling for a national conference of all the descendants of the victims and affected communities of the genocide for consensus on the matter.
The chiefs' assembly sees no urgency in approving the joint declaration.
The Okandjoze Chiefs Assembly made the statement during the commemoration of 12 January 1904, the day of the beginning of the war of resistance against imperial German forces at Okahandja.
