Challenges were encountered at Mokuti Lodge in Etosha National Park, where officials were denied the opportunity to set up a mobile station.
This was confirmed by Oshikoto Electoral Officer Ester Hipangelwa during an interview at the Tsintsabis fixed polling station.
Hipangelwa expressed disappointment that the lodge management denied officials the ability to conduct the national process.
However, she noted that the mobile team managed to set up their point a few meters from the lodge gate.
"The challenges that we have encountered so far are mainly concerning our fixed team that was scheduled to conduct the exercise at Mokuti Lodge, and we have been denied access to the venue. However, we have resolved the matter by establishing the polling point outside the lodge itself. Furthermore, we have a total of nine polling stations, five of which are fixed and four mobile."
Hipangelwa stressed that the opening of the Mokuti mobile team point was delayed by half an hour, but no voters were turned away.
Regarding the overall impression of the voting process, Hipangelwa stated that no complaints of ballots running out or tablets overheating were recorded.
"So far, we have had most of the machinery intact. Speaking of that, while we are here at Tsintsabis Primary School, we have improvised to utilize two tablets simultaneously. We also improvised to have three voting booths and arranged for a polling official to assist, as we experienced an influx of voters here at Tsintsabis."
Tsintsabis, being the largest settlement, experienced the highest voter turnout.
The polls closed at 21:00, after which the vote count will commence at the Tsintsabis Regional Constituency Office.
