The second suspect in the Namib Desert Diamonds (NAMDIA) robbery, Sam Shololo, was caught in the act of the crime, the state informed the Windhoek Magistrates Court.

Shololo, who faces charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and possession of rough diamonds, appeared before the court this morning (Tues) following the violent robbery on January 18.

The case was postponed to May 23.

The suspect, injured during the robbery, was hospitalized and discharged last week before his court appearance.

The state objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and concerns that Shololo might abscond.

Shololo and his co-accused, Joel Angula, face similar charges related to the NAMDIA robbery.

Another man accused of the robbery, Max Endjala, died from reported self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Shololo indicated that he will apply for state-funded legal representation.

NAMDIA CEO Alisa Amupolo, in a statement released days after the robbery, said the company deemed it essential to postpone a planned media briefing until an appropriate time.

She urged the public for understanding, stating that progress made by the police and internal investigations will be announced at the right time.

The company has not released details about the value or quantity of the stolen gems and has remained silent on how the robbers gained entry to the highly secured facility in the Klein Windhoek suburb.
