Authorities are offering a N$10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for killing a flock of Cape Cormorants in Dorob National Park.

The incident happened on Friday, January 17, at Canopy, where a vehicle ran over the endangered birds as they roosted on the beach.

The Cape Cormorant, a seabird native to Namibia and South Africa, has lost 57% of its population in the last 30 years. Conservationists warn that without urgent protection, the species could face further decline.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, along with the Namibia Coast Conservation and Management Project, has strongly condemned the act. They are urging the public to help identify those responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the MFMR Chief Inspector’s tip line at +264 81 281 8106.
