Inspector General of the Namibian Police Josef Shikongo has said the police will soon give an update on some of the horrific murders that have seemingly gone cold.

Shikongo’s response comes after nbc News wrote to his office asking about the progress made regarding several unsolved murders committed over the years.

The murders include that of a 6-year-old Karibib resident, Oswyn Myne Seibeb, whose mutilated body was discovered at the town’s sewage dam, and the murder of Avihe Ujaha, whose body was cut up and scattered in Katutura.

nbc News also, among others, requested an update on the progress of investigations regarding the rape and murder of Magdalena Stoffels, who was killed in a riverbed in Windhoek’s Khomasdal residential area.

Lieutenant General Shikongo said the police are busy compiling the necessary information and will share a detailed report soon. He cautioned about the sensitive nature of some of the cases, adding that legal and operational protocols may require the withholding of some information.

Josef Shikongo said NamPol values the promotion of transparency, public trust, and awareness about law enforcement activities.
