The Otjiwarongo Constituency Office has donated money and items to institutions making a meaningful impact on the lives of the communities in the town.
Constituency Councillor Marlene Mbakera handed over a cheque of N$200,000, equipment, and materials to local companies.
The funds donated by the Otjiwarongo Municipality are for the development of a community playground in the expanded residential area of Orwetoveni.
"Otjiwarongo will be the biggest or will get the biggest chunk of our donation. We have decided to donate 200,000 to Otjiwarongo Municipality, Orwetoveni being home to a growing number of children; the lack of a nearby playing ground has become an issue. During my interaction with the community members and young people, a lack of recreational areas, including playgrounds, was emphasised. We have started to engage the municipality by putting in a request for open space to develop a playground. At the council meeting held on the 7th of March 2024, our request was approved, and we were allocated ERF 4072 Gottlieb Katjinde Street in Orwetoveni."
Other beneficiaries include Van Nerens Funeral Services, Otjiwarongo Panelbeaters, Scorpion Onvestment CC, Life Fighter Football Club, and Rogate Primary School to put up a playground.
"We have also decided to give Rogate Primary School N$25,000 to upgrade their playground. Van Nerens Funeral Services has been having affordable funerals for the poor and the marginalised in the Otjiwarongo constituency. For me, this is more a social project than a business. We bought him material to make more coffins, to the tune of N$20,000."
Mayor of Otjiwarongo, Gottlieb Shivute, expressed the town's gratitude, adding, "As a council, we are committed to ensuring that this funding is utilised effectively and transparently to create a sustainable and safe recreational facility for our children."
The donated money is from the Otjozondjupa Regional Council coffers to all seven constituencies to fund developmental projects in their areas.
