Chief Glony Arnold of the !Kung Traditional Authority has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Namibia’s Founding President, reflecting on his impact on the San community and the nation as a whole.

Speaking from Tsumkwe West, Chief Arnold recounted receiving the news with heartbreak. “It was very painful for me when I heard about it. It was the first message I received on Sunday morning,” she said. “

Chief Arnold shared memories of her relationship with the late leader. “We became close, and he would often invite me to his farm, Etunda. We would sit together and talk, and he would encourage and advise me. He invited me about five or six times.”

The chief expressed the profound role the Founding President played in uplifting the San community. “He helped us a lot. I am one of the San community members he sent to Namibian Defence Force training without any requirements like Grade 10 or 12. Three groups of San were sent to the NDF, and some are still working there today. I am very proud of that.”

Reflecting on Namibia’s progress, Chief Arnold praised the leader’s role in securing freedom and improving access to education.

She concluded by offering condolences to the Nujoma family. “We keep the Nuyoma family in our prayers during this difficult time. All Namibians stand behind you.”
