On Friday, residents of Ohangwena, parts of the Oshikoto region, and surrounding areas gathered at the Eenhana Sport Stadium to honour the late founding President, Sam Nujoma.
The stadium was packed, with thousands of Namibians arriving as early as 6 a.m. to participate in the tribute to the nation's fallen leader.
In a speech delivered on his behalf, President Nangolo Mbumba praised Nujoma's leadership.
Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba also attended the memorial service, stating that Namibia has lost a pillar and that the void left by Nujoma will be difficult to fill.
Ohangwena Region's Governor, Sebastian Ndeitunga, remarked that the country has lost a legendary hero who was a driving force for Namibia both before and after independence.
Fillemon Joshua, the Swapo Party's regional coordinator for Ohangwena, urged members to remain united and steadfast as they move forward without their anchor.
Ohangwena was the second region to host the regional memorial service.
