Namibians are mourning a youth activist and agriculturalist, Jacob Hamutenya (36), who died in a fatal car accident on Sunday.
Hamutenya and another passenger died at the scene, while the female passenger succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Social media has been pouring with condolence messages expressing shock and disbelief at his death.
The Namibian Opportunities platform wrote that Hamutenya dedicated his time and energy to helping young people access and secure personal and professional development opportunities.
His contributions played a significant role in the growth of the platform, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many Namibian youths. They described Hamutenya as deeply committed to empowering young people and making a meaningful difference in their lives.
He served as the Regional Manager of the Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA) for the northern regions based in Ongwediva.
He held several leadership roles in the Swapo Party Youth League, including being a member of the Research and Technical Advisory Committee.
Hamutenya served on several boards, including the Namibia Agronomic Board (NAB), National Youth Service (NYS), the Iipumbu Senior Secondary School Board, the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), and the Agriculture and Forestry Industry Skills Committee.
Hamutenya was entrusted with national responsibilities at the age of 26 in his capacity as AMTA Regional Manager.
He understood firsthand the importance of empowering young people through personal and professional development opportunities.
Hilma Moses, the founder of Namibian Opportunities, says Hamutenya's death is a tremendous loss to Namibia.
Among those who expressed their disbelief on the death of Hamutenya on social media is Affirmative Repositioning (AR) leader Job Amupanda.
