
Ongwediva Town Mayor Tarah Shalyefu was among the limited number of invited guests to witness the swearing-in of Namibia's first female Head of State, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at State House yesterday.
Shalyefu stated that the historic moment affirms the ruling party's commitment to empowering women and giving them opportunities to lead.
The mayor said Nandi-Ndaitwah has a proven track record and is well-equipped to lead Namibia to greater heights.
He says women's empowerment is crucial, as women in the past were left behind, and that it's time to give them the opportunity to show the world their potential.
Shalyefu says hunger, unemployment and other challenges which need to be addressed by the new leadership.
The mayor was also part if the congregation at the church send-off ceremony at the Onamutayi Anglican Church on Sunday.
