The Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Secondary School scooped the Oshana Regional Library Annual Debate Championship award this weekend.

In second place and third, respectively, were the Reverend Juuso Shikongo Secondary School and Dr. Abraham Iiyambo SS, while Nehale Secondary School was placed fourth.

The debaters touched on Namibia's newly sworn-in President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and her selected cabinet.

The debaters expressed their confidence in the new dispensation.

Among the notable changes learners say they would like to see are a reduction in the high unemployment rate, economic growth, and equal opportunities for all Namibians across the 14 regions.

The learners applaud the President's bold decision to trim the Cabinet down to only 14 members, saying the onus now rests on the new leadership, their staff and Namibia's people to contribute to the government's agenda, based on the SWAPO Party manifesto.

The learners added that Nandi-Ndaitwah's election to the highest office on the land is monumental for women's empowerment, good governance, and for inspiring the girl child to be whoever they want to be, on equal footing as their male counterparts.
