The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture in the Zambezi Region has encouraged school learners to venture into technical subjects after observing good performances in this area last year.

During the inauguration of two new basic pre-vocational blocks at Nsundano Technical School in Bukalo, speakers from the directorate emphasised the importance of technical subjects in reducing future unemployment while also giving learners an opportunity to explore and harness their potential in more practical subjects.

The classes are each equipped with a teacher's office and a storeroom, constructed at a cost of N$1.3 million, and are meant to accommodate the growing number of learners at the only full-time technical school in the region.

Senior education officer for technical subjects in the region, Elizabeth Nchindo, praised the staff and learners who have managed to handle a second curriculum of the basic pre-vocational stream, which was only introduced last year, in addition to the mainstream academic curriculum.

32 learners are currently enrolled for level two, while level one has over 40 learners enrolled in pre-vocational lessons.

The education director, Alex Sikume, highlighted the importance of learners considering technical subjects and being supported by their parents in doing so.

Sikume further announced that while technical subjects have been introduced at various schools around the region, the directorate plans to open a fully fledged technical school next year.

The school principal, Fidelis Likando, further appealed to the government to help construct more classroom blocks to accommodate subjects such as hospitality, which does not have a designated classroom.
