The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) in the Erongo Region has expressed deep sorrow and shock following the horrific incident that claimed the lives of six family members on Saturday, 5 April, at Usakos.

The victims are Elizabeth !Naruses (86), Finney !Naruses (17), Raunisia Boer (6), Ibraha Gabriel (6), Rachel Boer (3), and Emie Gabriel (3).

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Usakos community and the nation at large.

In a statement issued on behalf of the party, PDM Erongo Regional Coordinator Roger Nautoro extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Usakos.

The heartbreaking loss has shaken the region and the nation to its core, he said.

The PDM also commended the Namibian Police Force for their swift and professional response and expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation.

While investigations are still underway, it has been alleged that the incident may be linked to domestic violence. The PDM cautioned that if these claims are confirmed, it would highlight the urgent need to address gender-based violence and domestic abuse.

The party further called for a national awakening in the face of rising social ills, including drug and alcohol abuse.

Nautoro said, “This tragedy must serve as a wake-up call. We need to declare a moral and social emergency. These destructive behaviours are tearing apart the fabric of our communities and affecting our young people the most. Let this be a turning point.”
