The Independent Patriot for Change (IPC) has resolved to designate a representative as the leader of the official opposition in the National Assembly, despite its ongoing legal concerns about the constitutionality of the position.
During a media briefing, the party leader, Dr. Panduleni Itula, explained that while they maintain their stance that the position of leader of the official opposition lacks a clear constitutional basis, the party has chosen to compromise to ensure the functioning of democratic institutions.
The party has nominated Emmanuel Nashinge for this role, but says that this does not validate the position's legal standing. The IPC plans to pursue a judicial review, simultaneously challenging the proclamation that created the role.

Dr. Itula emphasised the party's commitment to the rule of law, stating they will respect parliamentary procedures while seeking legal clarification through the courts. This approach allows the National Assembly to continue its work while preserving the IPC's constitutional arguments.
Nashinge, in accepting the position, pledged to lead with diligence for the good of all Namibians.
The party was, however, fast to point out that the destination does not substitute the party's president as the ultimate national leader of the official opposition, who will remain seized with the performance of national duties.
Nashinge's responsibilities will therefore be limited to duties inside the National Assembly or related to parliamentary business.
