The Zeraeua Traditional Authority has expressed gratitude for the continued development taking place at the Omatjete settlement in the Erongo Region.
The Chairperson of the Traditional Authority, Fabianus Uaseuapuani, explained that this follows a N$29-million water pipeline upgrade, rural electrification, road improvements, and a Build Together housing project.
Uaseuapuani stated that when completed, the upgrade of the 30-kilometer Ozondati-Omatjete pipeline will enable further developments at the settlement.
Currently, the community is serviced by one borehole and water tank deliveries about three times a week.
"The contractor has already started, and for about three months, we have been observing and seeing the contractor very busy putting up the whole pipeline, and they are progressing. The digging is already almost 3 kilometers, which remains to reach Omatjete. So you can see there is good progress. We are all happy. We expect this water crisis that we have in Omatjete to be resolved very soon, and this process is also blocking our development; hence, you can see Omatjete is moving forward."
Other notable developments include the construction of a police station with a mortuary section, a service station, and land servicing for Build Together houses.
"So you can see Omatjete is really progressing, and we look forward to development. As long as we have water, we will expand this village; we want it to be declared a settlement. That is what we have here."
The chairperson also wants the government to consider tarring the Omatjete road to connect to Omaruru and Uis.
