MAWLR intervenes in Omatjete water crisis

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform has intervened in a water crisis at Omatjete that has been ongoing for years.

The Ministry will be sourcing water from a village near Omatjete to mitigate the ongoing shortage of water in the village.

Situated more than 200 km from Otjiwarongo, Omatjete Village has faced challenges in terms of water availability since even before independence.

About 15 years ago, the regional council installed boreholes and linked them to the reservoir to provide water to the community.

Mines Minister called to look into dealings of small-scale mines and license holders

Residents of Omatjete Settlement and surrounding villages in the Daures Constituency have joined in the fray to get the Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo, to keenly look into dealings of small-scale mines and license holders.

At the community meeting with the minister, they argued that some mines are not only illegal but are also not assisting locals to benefit from the natural resources mined there.


The residents stressed how Chinese-owned mining companies mistreat locals despite the millions of dollars they are collecting in revenue.

FarPoint donates office equipments to Zeraeua Traditional Authority

FarPoint Investments has assisted the Zeraeua Traditional Authority at Omatjete in the Erongo Region with new modern technology equipment to help with the office operation and render better and more efficient service to the community.

Items donated worth N$130 thousand consist of computers, a printer, a water tank, and solar light.

The general manager at Farpoint Investments, Maggie Shi, pledged the company's commitment to assist in the development of the community in Omatjete.
