Liberation struggle veteran Selma Shaningwa, who has been described as a woman of remarkable strength, courage and resilience who played a pivotal role in her community and country, was buried at Eengolo in the Omusati Region.
Shaningwa, who was a resident of Onhofi Village, died on the 8th of April, aged 103.
She played a crucial role in Namibia's liberation struggle by providing shelter, food, medicine and support to Swapo PLAN fighters.
Her family recalled how she was beaten and tortured by the South African soldiers, causing her severe back pain.
Swapo Party Coordinator for the Omusati Region, Sacky Kayone, commended Shaningwa and her husband for being courageous in the fight for Namibia's independence.
They spent sleepless nights assisting PLAN combatants who were crisscrossing villages looking for accommodation and hiding places.
Kayone's message of condolence was delivered on his behalf by Olukolo Swapo Party Section Leader Jacobina Aupokolo.
Shaningwa is survived by five children, 31 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
