Okahandja Mayor Beatrice Kotungondo has called on residents planning a protest over the rape and murder of Ingrid Maasdorp to delay their demonstration until after the town’s Tourism and Trade Expo.
Kotungondo confirmed the council has denied permission for protests during the expo, citing the expected influx of businesses and visitors.
“The town will be hosting a major business expo, which is expected to attract many SMEs and investors. We believe the business community must be respected and allowed to operate without disruption during this important event,” Kotungondo said.
She condemned Maasdorp’s killing and supported calls for justice but urged protesters to hold a collective demonstration after the expo.
Ingrid Maasdorp (5), was raped, killed, and dumped under a bridge. No arrests have been made.
