Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa has raised concerns about succession disputes within traditional authorities.
He raised the issue during his address at the belated independence celebration at Mukwe in Kavango East over the weekend.
"People go to court to be declared chiefs or traditional leaders. How do you get your chieftainship from the court and say I'm in charge of my tribe and in charge of my people when your people did not elect you? What has happened to our cultural norms, traditional norms? Our way of doing things in Africa?"
Sankwasa said that, from now on, succession disputes will be solved traditionally without any courts.
"We have already resolved the Masubia traditional authority dispute using culture, not courts. The matter that was in the High Court has been withdrawn. If you find yourself claiming that you want to be the chief of a tribe or succeed the late chief, go examine whether you are doing it in the cultural way or not. If not, leave it because you will not succeed with me."
