Residents of Nova Compound at Katima Mulilo are appealing to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to address challenges they face.

Nova Compound was established about six years ago and lacks most basic services.

Residents want the water shortage, lack of electricity, poor road network and sanitation to be addressed.

The compound is home to about 3,000 residents who were relocated from Lwanyanda by the town council.

Residents appealed to the government to consider putting up streetlights to curb crime at night.

This, the residents explained, is that they have aired their grievances on several occasions with the town council, but they have not received satisfactory answers.

The Chairperson of Nova, Mafwila Kabozu, says they do not understand why they are paying for services they don't receive.

Katima Mulilo Town Council Manager for Technical Services, Inambao Anaene, said one portion of Nova has been serviced, and the other will follow, given the availability of funds.

The council has set aside N$3 million for water infrastructure.

Anaene further alluded that it is not the town council's responsibility to provide toilets for the residents.
