The City of Windhoek has proposed a 4% increase in electricity tariffs for the 2025/2026 financial year, exceeding NamPower’s approved average increase of 3.8%.

This proposal was presented during a public consultation session last Friday, held in collaboration with the Electricity Control Board (ECB) at the |Khomas Regional Council Hall.

City officials say that the proposed increase is necessary due to several factors, including NamPower’s tariff adjustment and a population growth in Windhoek of over 67% since 2011.

The City explained that this population growth has created a demand for more technical staff and has led to increased maintenance costs due to ongoing development and expansion.

If approved by the ECB, the new tariffs will result in a 3% increase for ordinary residential customers and a 1% increase for pensioners.

The City emphasized its commitment to maintaining affordable and sustainable electricity, noting that Windhoek still has some of the lowest electricity tariffs in the country.
