The Vice President of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar, paid tribute to and laid wreaths at the graves of Founding President Sam Nujoma and President Hage Geingob at the Heroes Acre.
Agar was in the company of the undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, as well as Namibia's Minister of Justice and Labour Relations, Wise Immanuel.
Before laying a wreath, Immanuel shared insights into the late President Hage Geingob's guiding principles and philosophy.
Meanwhile, Agar acknowledged the significance of the visit to Namibia not just as a diplomatic formality, but as a symbol of shared African resilience and unity during trying times.
"It means a lot. First of all, we have war in our country. We had wars, actually, but this war was very devastating, and it is being directed by foreign external elements, and they have different stories to tell to the people. It is in Africa or beyond Africa, so we have to tell our story to the African people. First of all, we need peace, and this peace has to be achieved within the African continent, and the principles of African problems have to be solved within the African home. So this is why we are here."
He said Sudan needs Africa and the leaders of Africa to participate in peace interventions.
However, the suspension of Sudan from the African Union in 2020 has not made things easy for the country.
"It makes it very difficult for Sudan to attend any peace process that is done through this country. We had a good reception from Her Excellency's government here, as you see the ministers around here, and we had a good meeting, and she promised that she would do her best to address the necessity and the necessary issues that constrain peace in Sudan. Also, we discussed bilateral relations between Namibia and Sudan. Previously, we had written an agreement of the committee that has to be reactivated, and there are other investment issues."
Agar stated that Sudan and Namibia have potential, and the two countries need to sit down and identify areas where they can track their potential together.
