The NBC's Board Chairperson, Lazarus Jacobs, has paid tribute to the late Lamech Mwanyangapo, describing him as a dedicated professional, a compassionate colleague and a man who turned personal adversity into a mission to help others.

In a statement, Jacobs said NBC had lost more than a long-serving employee, saying Mwanyangapo was a colleague, friend and valued member of the NBC family.

He said Mwanyangapo would be remembered for his professionalism, humility, kindness and commitment to service, even while facing serious illness.

Jacobs highlighted Mwanyangapo's decision to use his own experience with cancer to advocate for greater awareness, early detection and improved access to cancer treatment.

Jacobs said the initiative to champion the fight against cancer demonstrated Mwanyangapo's selflessness, as he chose to think about others who were facing, or could one day face, the same disease.

He said Mwanyangapo remained committed to NBC even during his final days and continued engaging on matters involving clients, partnerships and business opportunities while in hospital.

The Chairperson expressed hope that Mwanyangapo's work in cancer awareness would continue and that his advocacy could encourage more people to undergo early screening and ultimately save lives.

On behalf of the NBC Board, management and staff, Jacobs extended condolences to Mwanyangapo's wife, children, family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.

He called on the NBC community to honour Mwanyangapo's memory by serving with greater compassion, caring for one another and, like him, turning adversity into an opportunity to make a difference.
