The Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) has successfully raised more than N$700 million in the past seven years for projects that bring clean water, renewable energy and farming support to communities.

Its Chief Operations Officer, Karl Aribeb, revealed this at a Government Information Centre session in Windhoek.

Aribeb says the funding was channelled into projects that address environmental challenges, support rural communities and create jobs, especially for women and the youth.

Some of the benefits highlighted over the years include the provision of clean water to thousands of Namibians across the regions, the rehabilitation of over two hundred solar-driven water points in communal areas, and loans towards renewable energy in areas without electricity.

In a move to curb drought, the fund has also joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water & Land Reform to secure funding to support people restarting small stock farming and achieved accreditation with the second climate change fund, now called the Adaptation Fund.

He reaffirmed the fund's commitment to continue its support for the government and for communities to fight the effects of climate change.
