Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has inaugurated a classroom block at Musitu Primary School in the Kavango West Region.
The classroom block was constructed by Mbunza Fishing, at a cost of N$150,000.
The new classroom will shield learners from harsh weather conditions and motivate them to attend lessons.
Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare commended Mbunza Fishing for living up to its social responsibility.
“This classroom block is the result of exactly that kind of partnership: government, private sector, and community working side by side. As a government, we have always maintained that we cannot do everything alone. The development of our nation is a shared responsibility. That is why we call upon many more companies, organisations, and individuals to emulate what Mbunza Fishing has done. Corporate social responsibility should not just be an afterthought. It should be part and parcel of the corporate DNA of every company in Namibia. Let your presence be felt at every level of our society. Such gestures should not just end at Musitu Primary School.”
Dr Ngurare urged parents to prioritise education, emphasising it is a necessity, not an option.
The premier promised parents in attendance to construct an extra classroom for the school to commence next week.
Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo noted that despite government efforts the region still faces educational challenges.
“Twenty-nine schools still need permanent structures, and many of the schools in Kavango West still face classroom shortages; many children continue to learn under trees or in makeshift structures. This noble initiative by Mbunza Fishing directly responds to this pressing need. It will help decongest classrooms, improve learning conditions, and give our children a better chance and a brighter future.”
She also called on teachers and parents to prioritise the maintenance of infrastructure for the benefit of the Namibian children.
Musitu Primary School, from pre-primary to grades one and two, was established in 2001 and operated in a makeshift classroom with only two teachers.
