Residents of Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region joined the rest of Namibia in confronting its environmental health concerns by hosting the National Clean-up Campaign.

The Nkurenkuru launch started with a street march while the National Correctional Services band entertained residents.

Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Environment, encouraged people to take care of their environment.

"This is the environment we are looking for, because we cannot be clean and smelling good, and then we live in a dirty environment, Nti ngapi? This is not an event for Nkurenkuru alone; we are calling on all 14 regions, from Zambia to ||Kharas, from Kunene to Omaheke, to rise to the occasion and join hands in this critical national development activity."

Sinimbo further said keeping the environment clean aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals.

"The National Cleanup Campaign is one of the ways we live out that constitutional duty. It also contributes to our commitments under the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goal 11, which talks about sustainable cities and communities, and goal 15, which talks about life on land."

The official World Cleanup Day is observed on 20 September.
