Government officials often visit communities to gather information, but rarely follow up or provide updates.

This was shared by Fumu Erwin Munika Mbambo during the governor's courtesy visit to the Hambukushu Traditional Authority.

Over the years, Fumu Mbambo reported that government officials have repeatedly approached the Hambukushu Traditional Authority, yet they have never received any feedback.

He expressed that it is frustrating, especially when some issues are of a serious nature.

Yet a relaxed attitude is observed among those trusted to provide feedback to communities.

"We are waiting for a response to our requests; they come and get our requests, but they don't respond to our pleas, and another party still comes and requests more meetings. Why is it happening like that? I want the guest to answer us. Since we complained, we did not get a response. Many times we spoke about the Bwabwata issue, but we never got a response. Why are they dogging it? It's possible that they are attempting to distract us by suggesting that they may also favour the project. If they are not in support, why are they not giving us a response to all the queries that we shared?"

Senior Headman Erwin Disho alluded that government projects often exclude traditional authorities, who are custodians of the land, and fail to keep local communities informed about project developments.

"Investors should educate local communities when they arrive to build facilities, such as lodges. We need to come together and have a joint venture. They cannot just come and do business on their own here. Secondly, I am appealing to all councillors to work together. They promise that they will work with the traditional authority, but in the end, they do not fulfil their promises. Governor, we are asking you to talk to your councillors to work with the traditional authorities."

Governor Hambyuka acknowledged the concerns raised by Fumu Mbambo and assured him that his office will ensure a response.

"You will receive the outcomes or response, even if they are not good news or what you were hoping for. We have to revert to you so that you also know where you stand or what you are doing. This situation does not reflect well on us. I will take the honourable president's words,' she said. 'Even a letter of acknowledgement takes two months, which is not good.' A letter or an outcome, a report cannot take three months without a response to the rightful people; it shows that we are not working at all."

The governor's visit aims to strengthen collaboration between his office and the Hambukushu Traditional Authority.

At the gathering, Governor Hambyuka donated blankets for underprivileged locals in the region's six constituencies.
