A 28-year-old security guard was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Tuesday in Kuisebmund, Walvis Bay.
The deceased was identified as Setson Inamutwika Nghinamwaami, who was employed by Windhoek Security Services cc.
According to Erongo Regional Police reports, the incident occurred at around 02h30 in an open space behind Wizyman Bar, near Lusaka Street.
It is alleged that the guard was attacked with a sharp object and sustained fatal stab wounds to the chest.
He later collapsed at his duty post after managing to walk back from the scene of the attack.
Witnesses say Nghinamwaami informed a cleaner at the Meatco Shop, where he was assigned, that he had been stabbed with a knife and screwdriver before collapsing.
Emergency services were alerted, and the victim was rushed to the Walvis Bay State Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations indicate that Nghinamwaami had left his duty post briefly before the incident.
A supervisor from Windhoek Security Services confirmed seeing him on duty shortly before midnight during routine patrols.
However, the guard reportedly left his station around 03h00, during which he encountered his attackers.
Windhoek Security Services, in its preliminary internal report, revealed that blood trails led investigators to Maputo Street, about one kilometre from the site, where the victim's cellphone cover was discovered.
The company expressed concern over the safety of its personnel and called for enhanced surveillance in high-risk areas of Walvis Bay.
Police say no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Investigations are led by the Namibian Police Scene of Crime Unit, which is leading the investigation.
The next of kin have been informed.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.
