The Rehoboth Mayor Justin Coetzee described the handing over of the Kaptein's House as a bridge between the past and the present.

Coetzee said the Baster community built a society in Rehoboth grounded in discipline, faith, and self-governance.

Coetzee was speaking at the handover of the late Baster leader, Hans Diergaardt's house to the Baster Community.

"This occasion, the handing over of the Kaptein’s House, is far more than a formal event. It is a moment of restoration. A bridge connecting the past and the present. A testament to the enduring legacy of the Baster community. And therefore, we as a community must have the dignity and the unity to stand together with the leadership, our captain," Coetzee said.

He added that the Baster community’s contribution to Namibia’s history is reflected not only in books but also in the character of Rehoboth, the dignity of its people, and the spirit and service that continue to guide them. The Kaptein’s House was handed over to the Baster community to honour the memory of the late Baster leader, Hans Diergaardt.
