The Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Dino Ballotti, has clarified that teachers in the |Khomas Region will only be paid for examination marking and not for daily subsistence allowance (DSA), paid to teachers travelling from other regions.

He said that the allowance will go towards accommodation and transport.

Balloti's response came after Affirmative Repositioning (AR) MP Esther Haikola expressed the view that excluding teachers in the |Khomas Region benefiting from DSA can be discouraging.

"The colleagues that are coming from outside Windhoek are getting N$970 per day while the |Khomas Markers are not getting anything. How is the Ministry going to encourage these |Khomas teachers also to take part since no overtime is even given to them when they're marking on Saturdays and Sundays?” she noted.

Balloti responded that he need confirmation if markers are being remmunerated for marking.

"I need to get that confirmation. DSA is really intended for travel and I dont think it should be percieved that those in |Khomas Region are not benefiting," he added.
