NANSO has initiated a One Learner One Tablet Movement which will work with private and government institutions to equip learners and students with digital knowledge and tools to adapt in the digital era.

Its president, Dorothea Nangolo, revealed this at the student body's first ICT Summit held in collaboration with Huawei under the theme 'Advancing Digital Literacy and Cybersecurity'.

The event brought together learners and students from various schools and higher learning institutions.

They discussed the ethics and integration of AI in learning facilities, innovative digital solutions and inclusive digital development.

Nangolo highlighted that digital literacy and cybersecurity play a crucial role in Namibia's national development goals.

"We must be inclusive, and we must be realistic. There is no way we can say young people in this country, or our students, learners, and trainees, have quality education if it's not an education that has ICT access and digital skills, et cetera. Otherwise, we are not training, and we are not preparing young people to succeed in the world if we are not giving them the necessary digital skills."

Deputy Secretary of NANSO, Donna Gamatham, said youth are not only consumers of technology but also creators, innovators, and problem solvers.

"As we navigate an increasingly digital world, our capacity to understand, adapt and protect ourselves in cyberspace is no longer optional. It is essential. Digital literacy is not only about knowing how to use technology; it is about understanding its power to transform education, governance and economic opportunity."

Gamatham further encouraged the youth in attendance to make use of this opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and take part in the digital arena.
