The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's (NBC) veteran cameraman, Eddy Eneas, has died aged 58 after a short illness.

Eneas, a veteran of the liberation struggle, previously served in the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) before joining the NBC.

He served the corporation for more than 20 years.

Throughout his career, he earned respect for his professionalism, discipline, and passion for informing and educating the nation through the lens.

Oshana Police Commander Naftal Sackaria and Oshakati Town Mayor Leonard Hango were among those who paid tribute to Eneas.

They described him as a dedicated media person of note who travelled across the four northern regions and beyond to bring news to the Namibian people.

"Eddy – one can describe him as a guy who is always available for his work. He came out, and we did a lot of work together as NBC and the police in Oshana, so I would say this is a loss. I would say we lost a good friend of the police. I was in touch with the Inspector General, who also sent his message of condolences to the family. He knew Eddy very well; he told me they went to school together," said Commissioner Sakaria.

"We knew Eddy not only as an NBC employee but also as one of our residents who has been playing a central role in picking news mostly during floods. He was passionate about his work. On behalf of Oshakati Town Council, we convey our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Eddy; we are mourning together," stated Hango in his tribute.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
