The Ministry of Health and Social Services inaugurated the Farm 508 Primary Health Care Outreach Point in the Samora Machel Constituency, marking a major milestone in improving access to essential healthcare in the Goreangab area.
Speaking at the handover, |Khomas Governor Sam Shafishuna Nujoma said the clinic represents what responsive leadership and an engaged community can achieve.
"This handover reminds us of the need to streamline and coordinate projects across the region, ensuring that every initiative that directly affects the well-being of our people is handled with urgency and undertaken meticulously."
Delivering the keynote address, Health Minister Dr. Esperance Luvindao said the facility, which began as an emergency response to flash floods affecting former Otjomuise residents, has now evolved into a dependable access point for vital services.
The minister highlighted the role of primary healthcare in prevention, early detection and family wellbeing.
"Here, our dedicated health providers will offer essential services three times a week, ensuring that our community has access to vital care – from emergency treatment to comprehensive screening for adults and for children, as we see them gathered here. Immunisation; protecting our children as well as robust family service planning, wound service care, and critical antenatal as well as postnatal care – the goal is to ensure that we provide holistic care for the members of the community, like yourselves, that matter the most."
The minister also called on community members to safeguard the clinic while urging health workers to uphold the highest standards of service.
Enrolled nurse Vekazuva Ndjai welcomed the handover, noting the difference consistent primary healthcare access will make for families in the area.
"The government has brought the services close to the community. We have a variety of services here at the clinic. We do screening and baby immunisations. The first day of opening here, we received a newborn baby that we delivered here at the clinic. So we're actually happy for this clinic, that it has opened."
Community members also shared their appreciation, emphasising that the clinic will ease travel burdens and support vulnerable groups.
