Elphine Skrywer, Chairperson of the Maltahöhe Village Council, has urged political leaders and voters to put the needs of the community at the forefront during the upcoming elections.
Skrywer emphasised that regional councillors should not see the area as their personal property or seek to be “bosses”, but rather work tirelessly for the benefit of their people. “You have to be worried about your people; you should have sleepless nights for your people. Don’t let money be the motivation, but ensure that the town moves forward with development,” she said.
She reflected on the struggles the community has faced to bring Maltahöhe to its current state and called on those to be elected to continue this progress: “Those who will be voted should now carry it forward and ensure the place becomes a town again.”
Skrywer also encouraged citizens to exercise their right to vote, stressing that voting is a powerful voice to advance the town’s future. “Go out and vote; it’s your right so that you can have that freedom of expression. Take your votes as a voice to move your town forward. Don’t say you don’t have anything or aren’t getting something out of it. Go and vote for your parties and exercise your right so that tomorrow you will have something to say,” she said.
She concluded by quoting the President, urging voters to “vote so that you can bring change in the town you are.”
