Newly elected members of the National Council will be sworn in on Friday, 12 December 2025, following the recent regional council elections.

According to the Secretary of the National Council, Tousy Namiseb, once members have taken the oath, they will elect a chairperson, who will then preside over the election of a vice-chairperson. This process will formally constitute the Seventh National Council.

There is currently no parliamentary business before the House. After Friday’s proceedings, the National Council will adjourn until February 2026, when it will convene alongside the National Assembly for the official opening of Parliament. During the recess, members will be assigned to the Council’s six oversight committees and designated to various international parliamentary associations.

The Secretary noted that the Seventh National Council will follow the work of the Sixth Council, which reviewed more than 66 bills, carried out nationwide oversight activities and participated in several international parliamentary platforms.
