President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged Namibians to exercise care on the national roads during the festive season to curb the rising road fatalities.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah appealed to motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on the journey.

"As we approach the first recession, let us care for one another. As a nation, we must accept that we are faced with social evils and burdens of emotional distrust and frustration that we need to address in order to find solutions. Many lives are being lost every day due to society and gender-based violence. It's so sad. Let us talk, listen and advise each other. Let us stay safe on our roads. I am urging those on the wheels. If a driver misbehaves on the public road, do not respond with more misbehaviour, as that will lead to the loss of lives as well as property. Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy before you start your journey. Always obey traffic rules and regulations and exercise caution, patience and restraint. This will save the lives of others and yourself, as well as protect our properties. May you travel safe and spend this season in peace with your families."

She is hopeful that the nation will face the new year with renewed strength and purpose for nation-building and development.

The president also appealed to the haves to support the vulnerable, as the country faces social pressures, including suicide and gender-based violence.
