Traffic officials in the Zambezi Region are cautioning holidaymakers about road rage due to congestion in Katima Mulilo.
Traffic Law Enforcement Unit Commander Senior Inspector Alex Zingolo told the NBC News team that road rage has been the primary factor in car accidents in the town during the festive season.
"As we can see, our town is a very small town, whereby if one car stops, all the cars behind it will be congested, so obviously they will have road rage, whereby the other drivers will be hooting. So please, I urge everyone to be patient; you will eventually find a way out."
Zingolo reminded holidaymakers that the region borders other countries, with expectations of a high influx of tourists.
"Katima Mulilo is a town located within the border lines, so you will find that we are expecting more influx of tourists, who are coming in, and then also the local motorists. So I would want to advise all our drivers and the public road users to make sure that when they're on the public roads, they must be adhering to the road signs."
Despite deploying traffic officers to assist with traffic flow, Zingolo urged motorists to use alternative routes where possible.
"From Monday, people will be on holiday and will come for shopping, increasing traffic volume. Please use alternative routes where possible."
