As 2025 draws to a close, world leaders are using their New Year's addresses to set the tone for the year ahead.

Among them is President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who has urged Namibians to recommit to hard work, determination and integrity, saying these values will make 2026 a year in which no goal is beyond reach.

In her New Year's message, Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed hope that 2026 would be a year of extraordinary achievements.

She said that, although citizens cannot fully predict what the coming year will bring, she remains confident in their enduring spirit to tackle challenges collectively.

"I call upon our young people, who are the heartbeat and energy of our nation, to look after the elderly, stand with the vulnerable, and be protectors of those who cannot always protect themselves."

Looking back at 2025, President Nandi-Ndaitwah described the year as one that brought about remarkable and encouraging moments but also numerous challenges.

"Many among us faced economic pressures, others experienced the effects of climate change, and some endured personal losses or uncertainties. As a nation, we were united in grief and sorrow over the sad passing of His Excellency Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Founding President, Father of the Namibian Nation and Leader of our Revolution. May his soul rest in eternal peace. However, through these challenges, our collective endurance guided us."

The President further appealed for the continued rejection of social evils such as gender-based violence, discrimination, tribalism, regionalism, substance abuse and all behaviour that tears at the fabric of communities.

She added that Namibians, as a nation, embraced the theme of the 8th Administration, namely "Unity in Diversity, Natural Resources Beneficiation for Sustainable Development and Youth Empowerment".

The theme, she says, underscores that when diversity comes together with One Heart and One Mind, unity becomes strength.
