Seven rape cases, including one involving a biological father, have been reported to the Namibian police since the start of the year.
In Wanaheda, Windhoek, police reported a rape involving a 13-year-old girl and her 49-year-old biological father. The suspect allegedly fetched the victim from her mother's house in Goreangab Dam, claiming they were going shopping, then took her into the bushes, strangled her, tied her with a belt, and raped her before returning her. The victim was examined by a doctor and a social worker. The suspect remains at large.
In the Tsandi constituency at Ondongwahiyu village, police reported a rape on January 1 involving a 13-year-old girl and her 55-year-old uncle by marriage. The incident allegedly occurred in the suspect's sleeping room. The suspect allegedly paid her not to disclose it. He was arrested and is due in the Okahao Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
In the Onyulaaye area of the Oshikoto Region, a rape was reported on January 1 around Okapya Keedo village. Police said a 37-year-old man followed a 19-year-old woman from a cuca shop, grabbed her and dragged her into the bushes, where he assaulted her. The suspect was apprehended by villagers and arrested.
In Omuhene, Outapi Constituency, police reported a rape on January 1 involving a 10-year-old girl. The suspect, who is the victim's cousin, allegedly called her into his sleeping room and raped her. The suspect has not been arrested; investigations continue.
