Four murder cases have been reported to Namibian police since the start of the new year.
In the Oshikoto Region, police reported a murder at Iikokola Village in the Onyanya area. A dispute arose between a village headman and an assistant headman over land matters, escalating when the suspect allegedly shot the victim in the abdomen. The victim died at the scene. The suspect fled but was later arrested and is receiving medical attention.
In Windhoek, police recorded a murder and contravention of public health regulations at Okuryangava. A woman allegedly gave birth to a baby girl, buried her in a shallow grave behind her shack, and was arrested after the body was discovered two days later. Investigations continue.
Another murder was reported at Onandjokwe Village in the Ohangwena Region. A 42-year-old woman was attacked at her house; witnesses heard her crying before finding her outside with a head wound. She died at the scene, and her body was taken to the Okahao Police Mortuary for a post-mortem. A suspect is known but had not been arrested at the time of reporting.
In the Omaheke Region, police are investigating a murder linked to a domestic dispute in Gobabis. A man allegedly stabbed his partner with a bottle during a fight at their residence; she died at the scene. The suspect was arrested, and investigations continue.
Several attempted murder cases have also been reported, with victims receiving medical treatment and suspects either arrested or known to authorities.
