The Chairperson of the Omusati Regional Council Management Committee, Daniel Iilende, has urged the region's political and administrative leadership to implement government projects in a timely manner.
The aim is to enhance effective service delivery that provides tangible solutions to problems facing the communities.
Iilende made this renewed call to duty during the official opening of the regional council session for the year 2026.
The chairperson of the Omusati Regional Council warned that the year 2026 ushers in a new chapter defined by new political leadership, strategic direction, and developmental urgency.
All these, he said, are aimed towards the implementation of the strategic initiatives of Vision 2030 as laid out in the 6th National Development Plan and the Swapo Party Manifesto.
"We should plan more effectively, implement projects timely manner, and provide tangible solutions to problems facing our people, e.g., attending to rural water issues and fire outbreaks, such as the fire incident that erupted in Etosha National Park recently."
Iilende further reiterates the importance of harnessing the regional council's efforts as a collective, emphasising that they need to work together to achieve more benefits for the larger communities.
"I would like to reiterate that the opening of the council sessions marks not only the commencement of the business calendar for the year 2026 but also a renewed call to duty. It is now my distinct honour and privilege to formally declare the Omusati Regional Council for the year 2026 officially open."
The Chief Regional Officer of the Omusati Regional Council, Gervasius Kashindi, highlighted his key priorities.
"The two projects or implementation projects that we are looking at should be housing and sanitation. By sanitation we mean we should be able to improve the level of access to sanitation facilities in the region by making sure that we assist those who are not able to build the facilities, especially for the toilets, and then making sure that they have access, and where they don't have access, we should also be assisting them to get the assistance from other donors or role players."
In terms of housing, the council will ensure that those who are given loans to acquire materials to start constructing or complete their houses are assisted.
