The Governor of the ||Kharas Region, Dawid Gertze, has urged Komsberg fire survivors to be part of the solution in preventing future fire incidents.

He made the appeal during a donation ceremony in Komsberg, where his office's youth desk handed over food items, clothing and stationery to the fire victims.

The fire that broke out on 6 January this year gutted more than 50 reed houses in Komsberg, destroying personal belongings of the fire victims.

The fire was caused by an individual who lit a fire and left it unattended.

"If we are not going to change the way we address this problem, somebody might be caught up in a fire and die. This is what this government doesn't want to see. But even if you who are the victims of this problem choose not to cooperate and give your assistance in getting a resolution to this problem, we will come back to Komsberg often. It is not right. Let us look into the problem."

The governor further called for unity among the local residents in the face of prevailing tension based along tribal lines among them.

"That tension, you can feel it; you properly don't see it, but you can feel it as you go with people. That thing is there; stop it. It's not good for Namibia. And if Namibia is good for you, be good for Namibia by getting united."

The Karasburg East Constituency Councillor, James Hawanga, expressed gratitude to the governor's office for the good gesture.

"On behalf of our constituency and the recipients, we hereby welcome this noble gesture that your office has offered to this community."

The beneficiaries also welcomed the helping hand.

Most fire victims are employed at Komsberg farm as seasonal workers.

The farm produces oranges, grapes, and blueberries for international export.
