Swapo Party President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said lawmakers elected on the party's ticket have no reason not to coordinate their work and deliver quality services to the people.

The party's majority control of the National Assembly, the National Council, regional councils, and most local authorities underscores this expectation, she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah made these remarks during the opening of an induction workshop for Swapo Party members of the 8th Parliament.

"As Members of Parliament, your legal mandate is clearly stipulated in our national constitution. Therefore, this workshop is aimed at preparing and empowering our Members of Parliament to serve our people as a team and in a coordinated manner, in the fulfilment of your constitutional obligations. Yes, you belong to different houses, the National Assembly and the National Council. However, what is common is that you are all Members of Parliament with the responsibility of making laws and oversight on matters of national importance."

The one-day induction workshop is aimed at equipping Swapo Members of Parliament with tools which, the party leader said, will enable them to effectively carry out their duties.

Under a theme that emphasises results-oriented leadership, President Nandi-Ndaitwah said preparation, mastery of issues, and the ability to translate policy into law should be non-negotiable outcomes.

"Hence, the different topics that are chosen for this workshop. Let there be no misunderstanding. The Swapo Party expects all its deployees, including myself, to demonstrate total commitment to the implementation of the Swapo Party Election Manifesto and its Implementation Plan as transformed into the sixth National Development Plan (NDP6)."

The workshop brought together Swapo lawmakers from both houses of Parliament as the 8th Parliament begins its work.
